Strong starts build strong futures.

Dear Friends,

When we give kids a strong start, we give them the best chance to thrive in school and in life. That’s why I’m so proud that New Mexico is now ranked among the top five states in the nation for early childhood education, and the first state to provide universal child care. This progress reflects years of hard work by families, educators, and leaders who know that learning begins well before kindergarten.

Early childhood education is the foundation, and kids continue to learn and grow. As a school board member, I believe deeply in building continuity between early learning and public schools, making sure that the gains children make in infant/toddler care and PreK carry through their elementary, middle, and high school years.

The connection can be transformative: when we align early learning with K–12, we see stronger academic outcomes, higher graduation rates, and brighter futures.

I’d love to hear from you: what are your hopes for strengthening this connection between early childhood education and our public schools?

We will be gathering this Sunday, October 26 from 2-4 PM at Tumbleroot on Agua Fria to discuss the future of education in Santa Fe. I hope you’ll join us! Please RSVP, and share the event on Facebook.

If you cannot attend, but want to share your feedback, please take a few minutes to complete our survey.

Together, we’ve reimagined what’s possible for Santa Fe’s schools. Let’s keep building on this momentum from the very first years of a child’s life all the way through graduation.

With gratitude,
Kate
